When I watch the many tragedies on the news … the kind of tragedies that weren’t on the news in the 1950’s … school shootings, workplace shootings, murder/suicides, rampant murders, gang violence, drug induced crimes, addictions to dangerous drugs like meth, sex crimes, homosexuality, etc. … I think it all boils down to the fact that many people are very unhappy with life in its two most basic areas: romance and inner peace.
And the solutions to those two areas are continually being squeezed out of the mainstream. God and His Spirit and rules are the solution for inner peace. I know that from experiencing not having it (and the dysfunctional thoughts and desperate attempts at fulfillment and the resultant wild plans that spawns) and then having it, from surrendering to God’s Spirit within and making obeying His ways my top priority, and the resultant peace, purpose, inSpired living and deep fulfillment that brings. And that has lasted for 32 years now J
And the other area is romance. The roles of men and women in the entertainment industries and laws have been distorted to where their natural designs are barely recognizable anymore. And that breeds the unhappiness and desperation that leads to the bad news that I referred to in the first paragraph. It also leads to perversions like homosexuality and adultery.
The roles of modern day men and women have a lot of characteristics that don’t inspire love and security. The mainstream culture has made casual, things that are by nature very serious. One of them being casual sex. God’s way is that two virgins bond their hearts together in marriage and become inviolably “one flesh.” Now the culture looks down on virginity and mocks it until young people are intimidated into thinking that they are doing something wrong if they maintain chastity until marriage. The truth is … by nature and by nature’s Creator/Designer … they are doing something very right. Doing it wrong leads to insecurity and fights.
So then, which party is the one that primarily has led the cultural revolution into sin? And which party is the one that is supported by the sin-pushing entertainment industries? It’s the democrats. I know that all Republicans aren’t perfect, but the country erred greatly in the last election by not electing a good moral and financial leader in Mitt Romney.
The insight that I’m saying here was put well by Mark Twain.
In the September 2, 1904, edition of Collier’s, Mark Twain wrote: “It will be conceded that a Christian’s first duty is to God. It then follows, as a matter of course, that it is his duty to carry his Christian code of morals to the polls and vote them. Whenever he shall do that, he will not find himself voting for an unclean man, a dishonest man. If Christians would vote their duty to God at the polls, they would carry every election, and do it with ease. Their prodigious power would be quickly realized and recognized, and afterward there would be no unclean candidates upon any ticket, and graft would cease. If the Christians of America could be persuaded to vote God and a clean ticket, it would bring about a moral revolution that would be incalculably beneficent. It would save the country.”
