Sterling Surrenders Ownership to His Wife
Why doesn’t the NBA just apply their bylaws and remove him as an owner?
Check it out:
Embattled Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has surrendered control of the team to his estranged wife, Shelly. The decision will allow her to negotiate the sale of the team, which is expected to be more than $1 billion.
Donald’s decision comes after many expected the former attorney to fight recent sanctions imposed on him by NBA commissioner Adam Silver for his offensive racist comments captured on audio by an assistant. Silver banned Donald from league events for life, and said the board of governors would vote to force him to sell the team; earlier this week, the league formally charged him with damaging the NBA and set a hearing for next month.
Silver has repeatedly stated that the sanctions will also apply to Shelly, saying that “it doesn’t make sense” for her to retain her ownership amid the controversy. Star player LeBron James has also said “no one in his family should be able to own the team.”
