Matthew Warren’s Suicide: Tragedy for a Mega-Church Pastor

Very sad.
Check it out:

Matthew Warren took his own life. He was twenty-seven and the son of a Pastor. His father, Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church issued this statement about his son’s suicide.

“In spite of America’s best doctors, meds, counselors, and prayers for healing, the torture of mental illness never subsided. Today, after a fun evening together with Kay and me, in a momentary wave of despair at his home, he took his life.”

Matthew had apparently struggled with a mental illness his entire life. Pastor Warren and his wife Kay tried to help their son in any way they could, but Matthew continued to be plagued with this disease. Pastor Warren said that once, after a failed attempt at treatment, Matthew said this, “Dad, I know I’m going to heaven. Why can’t I just die and end this pain?” That was ten years ago.
