Bill Kristol: Leadership in GOP, conservative movement ‘has to pull back’

Add Bill Kristol to the list of conservatives that think the Republican Party should reconsider its way forward after last week’s election loss.

On this weekend’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday,” the Weekly Standard editor made that suggestion and said the GOP should even be open to raising taxes as part of that.

“The leadership in the Republican Party and the leadership in the conservative movement has to pull back, let people float new ideas,” Kristol said. “Let’s have a serious debate. Don’t scream and yell when one person says, ‘You know what? It won’t kill the country if we raise taxes a little bit on millionaires.’ It really won’t, I don’t think.”

Kristol went on to argue that falling “on its sword” to defend millionaires isn’t exactly something that is politically worthwhile.
