Paul Ryan: ‘Guilty As Charged And Proud Of It’ For Clinging To Guns And Religion

Stumping in Michigan Friday, Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan took a swipe at President Barack Obama’s 2008 comment regarding rural Americans.

“Remember about four years ago when he was talking to a bunch of donors in San Francisco and he said people from states like ours, we like to cling to our guns and our religion?” Ryan asked to laughter from the audience. “I just have one thing to say. This Catholic deer hunter is guilty as charged and proud of it.”

Ryan, a Wisconsin House member and chairman of the Budget Committee, joined GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney at a campaign rally at Long Family Orchard Farm and Cider Mill in Commerce, Mich.

On April 6, 2008, Obama made the now infamous remark about rural America while speaking at what he thought was a private fundraiser in San Francisco.
