Gasoline Prices Rise to Seasonal Records

If you filled up your tank today and thought the bill was a bit high, it was not your imagination according to AAA. The automobile and travel group said the average price of regular gasoline is 3.72 per gallon, which it said is the highest average ever for this day.

AAA also said it is likely that gas prices will continue to reach similar single-date records nationally “through the next few weeks and possibly longer.”

Movements of gasoline prices this year have been harder than usual to follow because they have not followed typical seasonal trends. Prices rose in the early spring to a peak of $3.94 in early April before receding to about $3.36 at the beginning of June – a time of year when summer travel demand and other factors typically drive prices up. Since then prices rose rapidly.
