The Fed joins Twitter

Count the Federal Reserve as one of Twitter’s purported 300-million-plus users.

The Fed introduced its official account Wednesday. The central banking system hopes to use Twitter for “increasing the accessibility and availability of Federal Reserve Board news,” and will start by sharing press releases, reports and other news, according to a press release.

The Fed greeted followers in its first official tweet Wednesday morning.
