Romney says Etch A Sketch comments misinterpreted, will run ‘as a conservative’

Mitt Romney said Wednesday that comments by a senior aide that suggested that Romney would reset “like an Etch A Sketch” in the general election were misinterpreted, and vowed to run “as a conservative Republican nominee.”

“A general election campaign takes on a different profile. The issues I’m running on will be exactly the same,” the former governor said at a campaign event in Maryland Wednesday, according to ABC News.

‪”I was a conservative Republican governor, and I’ll be running as a conservative Republican nominee,”‬ Romney added added.

The controversy surrounded remarks made by Romney aide Eric Fehrnstrom, who was asked during an appearance on CNN Wednesday whether the campaign had drifted to far to the right for a general election audience.
