Conservative bloggers are blasting Rick Santorum for seeming to suggest he would prefer President Barack Obama in the White House for a second term over a President Mitt Romney, with one right blogger warning the candidate that he shouldn’t let his “bitterness run away with that yapper of his.”

Santorum caused a stir when he said on the campaign trail Thursday, “If you’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future,” a reference to Romney.

The former Pennsylvania senator tried to clarify his comments, saying Friday, “I would never vote for Barack Obama over any Republican and to suggest otherwise is preposterous,” but by this point, the Romney campaign, along with some conservative blogs, had already seized on the remarks.

“Faced with the reality that his chances have collapsed, the Sweater Vest begins to unravel,” said AllahPundit at Hot Air.

“I’m actually amazed he’s making this argument given the hard feelings it’ll engender among Republicans who’ll soon be rallying around Romney in an ‘anybody but Obama’ fervor … Time to start thinking ahead strategically instead of letting bitterness run away with that yapper of his.”
