State of the Union? More Like State of the Campaign

Republicans have good reason to believe that President Obama’s goals in his State of the Union address on Tuesday night were more partisan than presidential.

Mr. Obama has shifted into full-bore campaigning. He expects little from Congress this year beyond the extension of existing payroll tax cuts. His highest-profile initiatives are designed to enhance his re-election prospects.

Where Republicans stand on shakier ground is in their assessment of Mr. Obama’s ultimate destination. On arguably the principal conflict between the two parties — over paring long-term debt and deficits — the president can still stake a stronger claim to the political center than his Republican antagonists.

Polls show that Mr. Obama’s budget positions are closer to those of most voters than the Republican positions are. His ultimate goal, advisers say, remains a bipartisan deficit deal along the lines of the one he nearly negotiated with Speaker John A. Boehner.

      3) Learn some history: BP oil spill was purely an EPA and Fed issue. ie; had we been able to park oil rigs in shallow water which was denied by the EPA, this rig would have never been there.

Why should he, when he thinks that he has a blank check and unlimited funds?     Boehner is spineless, he will NOT represent the will of the people but the will of the Republican establishment. He is in favor of cuts to the increases but not to cuts BEFORE the increases ever took place. His idea of a cut is that if they were going to give the Dept of Education a 10% increase but now only an 8% increase, he cut their budget by 2%. He doesn't understand that the people want it cut 15 to 18%. Bad example as the Dept of Education should be abolished.

      Do remember, that there are three supposedly equal parts on capital hill. Senate, House and the President. Right now the progressives have two out of the three. I think that you cannot put all the blame on Boehner. I believe he is trying to hold to conservative principles and still not come off as being the one to grid lock the house. I believe they have proposed a number of bills that the Senate refuses to hear. Who's fault is that?

      Mitch Daniels delivered his state of the state address last week. Like Obama, he did a lot of bragging. Unlike Obama, he has a lot to brag about.
      I don't know if it has made the national news or not, but the Democrats in the General Assembly are pulling the same stunt as last year, not showing up for work. They don't like a couple of bills that the governor and the Republicans are pushing, so basically they've shut the legislature down.

    As a conservative voter, contributor, volunteer, and former city councilor and Jefferson County Oregon Chamber of Commerce board of directors member, I find it stunningly offensive that a site claiming to be "Conservative" would restrict speech or allow themselves to be compelled under threat of penalty if that is in fact the case.     Rigarffunkel, We all thought maybe, just maybe they ran you out of town, no such luck !! We watched a half hour but could not stand any more of his lies, turned it off …it is funny he did not mention anything about healthcare, pipeline,etc, could it be he had nothing to brag about ??
