Rev. Al Sharpton tried to corner a Kansas congressman on “fair” tax rates during his MSNBC show Wednesday, but Rep. Tim Huelskamp, a Tea Party Republican, wasn’t having it.
“Is it fair that billionaires pay a lower tax rate than their secretaries?” Sharpton asked.
“They actually don’t, according to the IRS,” Huelskamp said. “The effective tax rate of these millionaires and billionaires is more than most secretaries unless they’re exceptionally high paid — 48 percent of all Americans don’t pay any income taxes right now, Reverend Al, and you do know that and the president knows that.”

They may achieve a certain level of success in secular issues that may, on the surface, be a good service to some in need. As good as it may be, it is only “temporary” for them on this earth.
Other Christians can and should involve themselves in secular matters. According to God’s Word, this would make Christians not only good citizens but obedient to Him.

I always hear about how 48 percent pays no taxes, yet for some reaosn it seems that everybody with a legal job pays taxes, so if you mean only 53% pays because only 53% has jobs i guess thats true, but if you mean only 53% of people with jobs pay, id like to see some proof of that
It's all there in black and white: read the tax code, use the government's own wage figures and population numbers, and do the math.
Below a certain number you pay nothing, and may get a check from the government., and above a certain number you pay the maximum rate. A rate, by the way, that increases as your wages increase.
You can do the research using a search engine such as Goggle. Just now I can't find the data I compiled using 2007 income tax data but as I recall tthe lowest 20% of income earners in total paid no federal income tax and in fact received money from the government via the Earned Income Tax Credit. A negative income tax a la Milton Friedman.
As long as we have the scum running the news still in power (i.e., AP, Reuters, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN) the truth will be hidden. In a few months in the 90s the media (ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN) ran 244 accounts of Newt's supposed ethical violations including illegal income tax evasion. The fact that Al Sharpton is not in jail shows that America is held hostage by the tyranny of the minority. If so then that would mean in reality he actually paid his taxes plus the 15% and those are things the left purposely does not mention. So when that happens it is up to the right to explain it correctly so that the average America can understand.

I find Sharpton to be brilliant.
He stayed on the mantra; he did not deviate. He roused his audience for sure.
Let's consider what he said: "Is it fair?" He framed an objective argument in subjective terms. While I applaud the Congressman's composure and the bulk of his response, he did not allow himself to be drawn in, I would have liked him to point out that Sharpton pays the same rate as Romney. He could then ask whether it is fair for Sharpton to pay what Romney pays.
The Democrats are masters of equivocation. Consider IRS rules regarding income taxes: the income tax is progressive, so higher earners already pay at a higher rate on wages. (Wages, by the way, are a form of income that is specifically exempted from taxation under the Constitution, prior to being amended.) The tables are the same no matter how much income is earned. The bottom line is we all pay the same rate at the same wage level, prior to exemptions, a topic left for another discussion. Seems "fair" enough in subjective terms.
There is another class of income subject to taxation, again, under the Constitution, prior to being amended, that is the object of taxation: interest and investment income.
The theory was that the only "thing" every sovereign man had to trade was labor, and to remain free and sovereign his wages could not be taxed. Interest, however, was a privilege and as such should be taxed to support the needs of the government, i.e., the people. And today all things being equal, we pay comparable rates. Again, sounds "fair" enough.
The Congressman, Romney, Sharpton, you, me, all pay the same rates, all things being equal. How we invest, what we invest in, the number of dollars we accept as wages, are variables we control. Maybe our wages please us, maybe not. Maybe we made good investments, maybe not. The result may not be equal, but it's fair if we make our choices.
When we confront individuals who share Sharpton's philosophy, based upon Rousseau's theories, we are challenged to raise our game. Rousseau played democracy against a ruling class, the theory being that the best and brightest bore the burden of caring for the democratic masses. Sharpton believes he is of the burdened class, equivocates to draw in the masses, and insults their intelligence as he and the others who "are more equal" bear their great democratic burden, the great unwashed.
The next time, Congressman, ask Al what rates he pays on wages and investments. You almost stopped him this time; next time you will.
