Perry yokes Iran to border security
Rick Perry, on CNBC as part of a media blitz in advance of his first major policy speech tomorrow on energy, sounded a muscular note on border security – an issue that has bedeviled him as he’s faced questions about immigration policies – and tethered it to Iran.
Per POLITICO’s Reid Epstein, Perry said:
“In ‘09, we missed a great opportunity when we were naively talking to the Syrians and the Iranians when the revolution, the Green Revolution was going on, and we should have been supporting those citizens trying to overthrow that oppressive regime.
“There’s a second issue here, that I’ve been sounding the alarm on to Washington for a long time now, the border security with Mexico. When you think about the Iranians using Mexico as a base of operation, we know Hezbollah and Hamas are also operating out of there, and securing this border, the next president of the united states, well let me put it to you this way, when I’m president of the United States, I’ll secure that border because we know how to do it. I’ve been dealing with it for 10 years.
