Satellite Dishes a Human Right?

It is regarded as a luxury that allows people to watch top sport and blockbuster movies from the comfort of their armchairs.

But owning a satellite dish is actually a human right, according to unelected European judges.

In an extraordinary ruling, lawmakers in Strasbourg have warned that banning dishes on listed buildings, social housing and even private homes could breach the right to freedom of expression by preventing people from practice religion.

          If you are an illegal immigrant and collecting welfare etc., you will have enough money to buy a new cadillac. After all, we will give you free money, free medical, free food, free housing and you can always collect ssi on you disabled children because they won’t do what their told to do when they are told to do it. Just have a bunch of kids 8 or more and with the xtra money you can pay cash. Great country if you are not a working, middle class, citizen, who ends up paying their bills.

        I live in the Piney Woods area of Texas and wouldn’t have TV either if it wasn’t for a satellite. That doesn’t mean if I could not pay the bill that I would expect others to pick up the tab…. and I sure as heck do not want to be forced to pay for someone else’s.

      Similar problem in my town a year, or two, ago. Cell phone service was awful, since we only had one cell tower. The blacks on welfare and medicaid complained loud and long that their medicaid provided cell phones would not work in certain parts of town. So the Fed mandated that new cell towers be built to give total coverage to the entire town. Those service providers that did not cooperate would be prohibited from offerng cell service.

    Hey it was not long ago that John Kerry or John Edwards was arguing before the Senate that everyone should have access to the NFL season pass on TV. that people had a RIGHT to it and it was not fair that they charged so much for it that the poor could not afford it. Is there anything that libtards do not think is a right? Except religion of course. Health Insurance, car Insurance, High Speed internet, and watching the NFL are all rights though none existed at the time the Constitution was written. Go figure

      Hey, don’t forget that tax-dollar supported prisoners now have a ‘right’ to cosmetic surgeries, most especially homosexuals who want (are demanding) sex-change operations costing thousands and thousands of dollars. Liberal reasoning is that if the system fails to provide homos with an external sex change matching their ‘internal selves’, it will do irreparable harm to their poor little psyches. Encouraged by governmental sympathy and cooperation towards pervert prisoners, career welfare bums could take a clue and begin their demands for the same. Just think of it: hard working tax paying American families forced to spring for sex-change operations for hardened perverts who routinely leech off public services, all while these over-taxed families can barely make ends meet for themselves and their children.     Bart, being from Okla. and having lived in some remote areas, I understand how having a dish would be considered as necessary to obtain T.V. service. But having lived in some of those remote areas we also considered a dish as a luxery not a “Right” and I still fail to be convinced that having a dish is a “Right”. If having a dish is a “Right” then get ready for your government to mandate that dish companies provide free dish service to every welfare and needy citizen. And we all know that when our government makes that mandate then those companies are going to pass along 110% of providing that service to the rest of us that already pay our bills.

    Our good Sheriff Joe in Arizona was mandated by the courts to provide TV service for his inmates. He placed the necessary TV’s in service and had then all tuned to the weather channel as the only channel that could be viewed on the tv’s.

      You don’t seem to understand that there will be no private enterprize in the United Socialist States. All companies will be state owned, including satellite TV, and will provide equipment and services on some predetermined basis. For example, a single person may be assigned a one room apartment. If that person should marry and have a child they can apply for larger accomodations and so on down the line. See, the state will take care of you

        Yes, and when the socialist government gets around to outlawing the right of private property ownership (which they ultimately will do), anybody owning land and/or a home will suddenly not own it anymore. Those allowed to remain in (and caretake) their home will be forced to share it with as many people as the government deems appropriate for its size (so many square feet per person). This is commonly the way it’s done in socialist countries, most citizens told where they will live and work, etc., only the elite ruling class having access to certain luxuries and choices (continually regulated according to hierarchical policies).

    I work for a volunteer agency that assists the poor with clothes, household goods, and monies to help pay for rent, utilities, etc. We had to stop the last one because people were taking their rent money and using to buy cable. Now WE PAY THE BILLS OURSELVES and the money is out of the hands of irresponsible spenders.

      It’s a wonder that some a–hole hasn’t sued your group saying they have a right to spend their free money anyway that they want to. Bless your group for helping, but thanks for being smart enough to handle it the way you do! I hope you take time to inspect their abodes to make sure that the reason they can’t pay rent is they are having to make payments on a 60+ inch flat screen TV w/ surround sound. Been there and seen that quite a few times!

      I am really relieved! I thought you might be one of those non-profits that pays no tax and might be receiving Fed money to provide services to some non-existent group, and pay your help off the books so they don’t have to pay income tax. You know, like Rev. Jesse Jackson. In my small town we have more than a dozen Social Service groups and another 10 or 12 home health care, senior care, or advisor groups. Not to mention 8 or 10 Fed subsidized nursing homes and retirement communities. All are socalled “NON-PROFITS”.

As for the “right” to have a satellite dish, they’d better OWN the property before defacing it. Here in the US a tenant would face eviction if he pulled that without permission. In some places he might even be used for target practice.
    All depends on whose “rights” are being trampled on.

    I have the same problem in Tennessee that Bart in texas has/ I live in a rural area.
    The only way to keep abreast of the news is via satellite since no other methoc is available.

      In my general viewing area, a few local stations are available without satellite dish or cable hook-up (although that doesn’t make any difference regarding news and commentary content, local programming as equally prejudiced and biased).

    The only people that welfare has ever provided assistance for in the two States I have lived in are Blacks, and they run every welfare office in every County in both States, so it’s like the fox owning the Hen House, and gets to have chicken, steaks, cell phones, etc any time he wants…

    And you know what? If you want news or sports then listen to the radio. To me television is a luxury and should not be forced down the tax-payers throat. Anyway when the weather is bad you do not always get reception. When they went digital a lot of people I know no longer had television. We survived with out it when I was young. We live in a world where everything with the young is instant gratification.

      My former analog reception was much better than the digital signal I now receive. The digital signal continually acts up, alternately scrambling and freezing, my reception so poor that I sometimes get frustrated and turn the set off (I’ve tried various antennas, all to no avail). This circumstance actually doesn’t bother me too much, finding very little on TV that’s worth watching anyway. If I seriously want to view something and relax without the digital hassle, I drag out a good DVD.
