Martin Luther King Memorial Made in China

It is perhaps a fitting tribute to racial co-operation. However, the decision to outsource to China the carving of a new national memorial to Martin Luther King has raised eyebrows in the United States.

The 30ft-tall statue, which forms the centrepiece of a $120 million (£73 million), four-acre memorial to Dr King, opened to the public on Monday on the National Mall in Washington. It is the only memorial on the Mall that does not honour a president or fallen soldiers.

Standing in the shadow of the Washington Monument, the statue shows Dr King emerging from a mountain of Chinese granite with his arms crossed and is called The Stone of Hope.

However, there has been controversy over the choice of Lei Yixin, a 57-year-old master sculptor from Changsha in Hunan province, to carry out the work. Critics have openly asked why a black, or at least an American, artist was not chosen and even remarked that Dr King appears slightly Asian in Mr Lei’s rendering.

    Another waste of taxpayer money, Martin King (I refuse to use his middle name) was not only a wife beater but also a communist. Last night while I was sleeping I had a dream, does that mean that everyone gets a day off with pay? Why does the government officially honor this piece of shit with a holiday (Holy Day?) and renounce Christ (Good Friday is no longer an official holiday)?

          i noticed that on tv. not surprising since nothing is made in the USA anymore. lEVi’S are not made here, Conveerse shoes are not made here anymore and both are really inferior products.

          I betcha if the union bosses were forced to give up their fancy mansions,big paychecks and other goodies and corporate bosses were forced to do the same, the would be a big dent in the national debt.

            You mentioned Converse shoes not being made in the USA – if you want shoes made in AMERICA, do as I do – I buy SAS shoes – San Antonio Shoes made in San Antonio, Texas! They have a variety of styles and are the very MOST comfortable shoes I have ever worn. They are expensive, so I only buy one or two pairs a year, and they last for years. I highly recommend folks buy these rather than any imported products.

            Munro is another US shoe company and it’s family owned. Their shoes are also expensive, but very comfortable. I have four pairs, all different styles and I walked all over the UK (twice) in one of the pairs and it still looks good.

            A pair of US made 1970′s deadstock Converse Lo Tops just sold on on ebay for over $150. That’s how it’s got.

            Similarly you can get US made LVC (Levi’s Vintage Company) jeans which reproduce the different styles from their history and sell for £230 here in Britain. They were until a few months ago £130 and to my mind worth it. However, I refuse on principle to pay this whopping increase.

            And adding insult to injury even these repros once made in the original factory in Valencia Street, San Francisco have now moved location and destroyed the heritage.

            At one time this sort of military, hunting and workwear clothing was as American as apple pie, now the Japanese make it to a quality once the preserve of companies like Levis, Lee, Carhartt, Alpha but costing twice as much.

            I now trawl ebay where you can still get either used or deadstock American classics but it ain’t cheap.

          So jobs are #1 but we send this to China! Another case of double talk and treachery! Yes, to me the statue does not look for King but an odd face altogether. We need the jobs here, we have the sculptors, and we need the money. What do Obama lovers understand? Apparently nothing. I hope the blacks realize this is a travesty and does not really represent what King is or meant. Remember, you all, Jesus came to save sinners, not saints. At least part of his life was to bring Jesus to people and help them to be stronger and prouder of who they are. I don’t like his bad side, but we all have bad sides, and hopefully some good sides.

          Yeah, but beyond the moment of creation, equality is a matter of development and, egalitarian theories not with-standing, we don’t all develop equally, thus accounting for the disparity in outcomes. Egalitarians always make the foolish assumption that if we are all created equal, we should all end up equal. Consider, as an example, a foot race. According to egalitarian theory, if all runners start from the starting line at the same time, they should all reach the finish line at the same time. Any other outcome proves that some evil intent, working in the background, prevented this outcome. They don’t recognize this as proof of the falsity of their social theories.

          I have no problem if someone wants to erect a monument to MLK, many feel he did a lot for the country, but that is the ugliest statue(?) I have ever seen. Yes, it even looks Asian. I saw it one day on TV, didn’t hear what it was about, and did not even recognize who it was or that it was an actual monument. Looks like amateur carving in a big piece of cement.

        Thanks for pointing this out. MLK was no saint, and he had a notorious taste for white women. I care about this only because it was so hypocritical. He was, of course, a married man. I think the statue looks fine. It’s not a particularly good likeness, but I can’t say it looks more “Asian” than MLK himself looked, especially around the eyes. My question is this: The Chinese communists tortured, harassed, and murdered millions of people. How dare they now honor a man who was trying to rectify the problems American was trying to overcome with the help of MLK? What miserable hypocrites!

            I don’t know of anything of significance they’ve accomplished yet! I live in a town where the ratio is 80% black. You gotta live in it, then you’ll understand. This is the one town MLK failed in and I assume to get even they all moved here and tore the town apart. A once thriving city is now a shell of what it was before they infilterated. Crime, gangs, murders, you name it. All you have to do is watch the local news and 99% of the crimes in this town were committed by the blacks. But what can you expect when the ones holding public office are black and are committing many of the crimes themselves such as missappropriation of funds, wife beating (done by a judge, no less), killing their wife, stealing (police) just to name a few.

            TDEL It is irelelvant whether one posting here has ever sinned. We all have and do. The point is that MLK affected American Society and so his personal actions are called into question. Certainly he was maligned by the FBI and “other” organizations. He was standing up and rallying people so the establishment people had to defame him. It’s how they keep things balanced. It’s also why Washington needs to be purged on a regular basis.

            The liberals decided to pander to groups as separate groups and to utilize them as voting blocks. This happened at the time of the civil rights movement.

            Dependence breeds laziness and the dissolution of all the structures of a healthy society such as Family, church and work ethic. Idle time breeds evil and people turn to crime as a means of sustenance. (The pandering is never enough to fully provide for anyone unless they game the system, it is intended to keep them dependent) Crime increases and the property values plummet. Depressed property values drive out the productive who can escape and sustain the loss of capital by selling their home at a loss. Soon it makes no sense to repair a home that is already valued lower than the note on it. The front porch falls off and the owner can’t afford to repair it, and can’t get a loan to make the repairs.
            This horrific destruction would never be tolerated if it was imposed by a foreign nation. We have done it to ourselves.
            The destruction came in the Trojan Horse of giveaways. The horse was delivered by white liberals in the name of providing racial equality. They have done it again, by the way. Look at the bumper stickers for Obama Biden, a good 80% of them are on cars driven by white liberals. O’bama is in the process of delivering the final blows to bring our Republic to ruin.

I think he did it wrong in demanding “Civil Rights” instead of focusing on the real problem of the time which was that people’s constitutional rights were being infringed upon.
            To create a new branch of law to provide for the rights of a beleagured group was a bad idea. Because of his actions and those of the ‘Civil Rights” movement we now have every stupid little girevance group claiming “Civil Rights” infringement and dedmanding a special dispensation of the law.

            Working in Memphis when MLK was killed, it was obvious that this was an open conspiricy. Who? Would never be published. In the circle of Memphis is was discovered many questionable facts about Ray, his backing or support was never made public. This would have destroyed the “great hero” image of this man. After all who else would the “so called freedom movement” have to put on the Great Throne? Plagiarism!!!! How come he went from “the reveran to the DR.” in such a short time? It is a know fact that he never quailified for a Phd. due to the fact he never wrote his desertation. Which is public record. My Aunt and Uncle who lived in Ripley Miss. and were very active in the anti-civil rights movement, had pictures they took of MLK exposing his thingy doodle to a woman in a mass parade at Ole Miss in Oxford. There a tons of other facts about this “Hero” that would curl your hair if known, not hear say but facts people I know have seen and provided proof. But, it was for nought……nobody cares about the truth. Ha! I remember the first year the “black history month” was formed. I was attending the U. of Tenn. in Memphis and got to see a copy one of the first books depicting the great blacks. I swear, one dude was praised in the book for being able to throw a spear so far, another for being able to ride a mule backwards. It was rediculious what filler they had to have to make such a book. “Great Blacks of the US.” Excellent reading.

        Martin Luther King’s statement that a person should be judged by his character not the color of his skin is a majestic thought. I will do that as I look at King, and I wonder if radical leftists, King worshipers, white liberals, black non-thinkers, media moguls and others will do the same? Some “conservatives” need to do likewise!
        In my lengthy report (from which this column is taken) I look at the whole man and all the circumstances that made him what he was: The Person, the Preacher, the Politician, the Party, the Plagiarist, the Prevaricator, and the Philanderer, and the Protectors. To be fair, balanced, and accurate we must look at every facet of his life. Some will object to my research, questioning my motives but do my motives really matter? Isn’t it the truth that is important? Don’t people of character care about truth anymore?
        Richard John Neuhaus said of King: “Dr. King was, for all that was great about him, an adulterer, sexual libertine, lecher, and wanton womanizer.” Neuhaus is a well-known liberal theologian and writer. My research also indicates that King was a drunk, plagiarist, bisexual, and Marxist. Try to remember that we are not concerned with his race or complexion, but his character.
        If you read my King report with his name substituted with another, maybe Bill King, most decent, honest people would be repulsed and disgusted. Why not the same reaction with Martin Luther King?

        If we were looking at David Duke and did not deal with his past involvement with the Nazi movement, I would be accused of bias or poor research. In the interest of truth am I not required to do the same with King? If not, then why is he exempt from a careful, honest look at his past to make a decision about him in the present? If I am wrong, please correct me.
        No person deserves to be called a journalist if he refuses to look at both sides of an issue or if he/she refuses to give proper weight to all arguments because of prejudice. If a writer is fearful of where the truth will lead him, he should be selling insurance.
        During the eight years I wrote columns for USA Today, I asked the editor if I could do a column on King’s plagiarism, however, I never got permission. I had read the story of King’s thievery in the London papers during a stopover from one of my trips from the Middle East. The editor of USA Today either did not believe me or more probably did not want to take the heat for breaking the story. The Wall Street Journal broke the story a couple of months later although they did so gingerly.
        It is noteworthy that the American media was then forced to deal with King’s plagiarism, but even then they defended him! One main defense was that it was a “black thing,” which was an insult to honest, decent Blacks. When you quote King you don’t know whom you are quoting!
        Why is there little debate in the King controversy? During the eight years I wrote columns for USA Today, the editor would not permit me to do a column on King although every year in early January, they always did a page dealing with him. I have one issue that has five columns dealing with King without one critical word on the whole page about him! That is a disgrace to all honest journalists everywhere.
        Evidence proves that King had numerous affairs with various women plus numerous one night stands with prostitutes; two black columnists reveal that FBI tapes support the charge that King was bisexual having been heard during a sex orgy with his “best friend” Ralph Abernathy. King was also caught running naked after a woman down a Norway hotel hallway during his trip to accept the Nobel Peace Prize! The night before he was killed he spent the night with two women and fought with a third, according to his “best friend” Ralph Abernathy. If a man will not keep his marriage vows, he is not worthy to walk my dog.
        According to the Bible, King was not even a believer in Christ! He rejected Christ’s deity, His virgin birth and his physical resurrection so according to II John he should not be honored; instead no one should “bid him God speed.” Furthermore, I challenge anyone to produce one example of King, a Baptist preacher, ever seeking to get lost men to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Never happened because he did not believe that was essential.
        King, like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, Rudy Giuliani and assorted Republicans was a man without character, and informed, honest, decent Americans should not be honoring him with a special day each year.
        While I was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives, a member introduced a bill to memorialize King before we had his national holiday forced upon us. The memorialization meant nothing since we did them almost every day as routine.
        When the King vote came up (it was a voice vote since it was no big deal) mine was the only negative vote out of a hundred. No one in the senate voted no. I wondered where all the conservatives were. Soon they surrounded me saying that they should have voted with me but didn’t think it was worth the flack. I was told that had I demanded a recorded roll call vote and spoken against the memorialization, there would have been repercussions with my legislation!
        The following year the same thing happened in exactly the same way! I started to speak to the issue and demand a recorded vote but did not do so. Why? I don’t know. Some might say it was peer pressure. My conservative friends told me, “Don, it won’t do any good and could hinder your chances of getting your bills even assigned to committee.” It was the only time I did not follow my principles while in office.
        King does not deserve a national holiday but instead he should be exposed as a fraud, a fake, and a fool, and I would feel the same about a white conservative! As for celebrating January 15, I will do so since it is my birthday!

I have read biographical information from a lot of different sources and it seems to me that all the ones who claim he was a communist are pretty short on proof. About the only thing that seems proven is that some of his associates were communist, some in the past, some while he was associated with them. So come on, Mr. Galt, let’s see some proof!

      While you are at it, how about the same thing for the wife beating?

      Just so you know I am not just an MLK fan – it seems almost certain that he did have numerous affairs. Some of them one-night-stands, some much longer. If anyone needs to see the proof, I can show you some links. Somehow, I am doubting that many people around here will need proof.

        Well friends, he is not a legitimate reverend, he is not a bona fide PhD, and his name isn’t really “Martin Luther King, Jr.” What’s left? Just a sexual degenerate, an America-hating Communist, and a criminal betrayer of even the interests of his own people.
        On Labor Day, 1957, a special meeting was attended by Martin Luther King and four others at a strange institution called the Highlander Folk School in Monteagle, Tennessee. The Highlander Folk School was a Communist front, having been founded by Myles Horton (Communist Party organizer for Tennessee) and Don West (Communist Party organizer for North Carolina). The leaders of this meeting with King were the aforementioned Horton and West, along with Abner Berry and James Dumbrowski, all open and acknowledged members of the Communist Party, USA. The agenda of the meeting was a plan to tour the Southern states to initiate demonstrations and riots.
        From 1955 to 1960, Martin Luther King’s associate, advisor, and personal secretary was one Bayard Rustin. In 1936 Rustin joined the Young Communist League at New York City College. Convicted of draft-dodging, he went to prison for two years in 1944. On January 23, 1953 the Los Angeles Times reported his conviction and sentencing to jail for 60 days for lewd vagrancy and homosexual perversion. Rustin attended the 16th Convention of the Communist Party, USA in February, 1957. One month later, he and King founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, or SCLC for short. The president of the SCLC was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The vice-president of the SCLC was the Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, who was also the president of an identified Communist front known as the Southern Conference Educational Fund, an organization whose field director, a Mr. Carl Braden, was simultaneously a national sponsor of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee, of which you may have heard. The program director of the SCLC was the Reverend Andrew Young, in more recent years Jimmy Carter’s ambassador to the UN and mayor of Atlanta. Young, by the way, was trained at the Highlander Folk School, previously mentioned.
        Soon after returning from a trip to Moscow in 1958, Rustin organized the first of King’s famous marches on Washington. The official organ of the Communist Party, The Worker, openly declared the march to be a Communist project. Although he left King’s employ as secretary in 1961, Rustin was called upon by King to be second in command of the much larger march on Washington which took place on August 28, 1964.
        Bayard Rustin’s replacement in 1961 as secretary and advisor to King was Jack O’Dell, also known as Hunter Pitts O’Dell. According to official records, in 1962 Jack O’Dell was a member of the National Committee of the Communist Party, USA. He had been listed as a Communist Party member as early as 1956. O’Dell was also given the job of acting executive director for SCLC activities for the entire Southeast, according to the St. Louis Globe-Democrat of October 26, 1962. At that time, there were still some patriots in the press corps, and word of O’Dell’s party membership became known.
        What did King do? Shortly after the negative news reports, King fired O’Dell with much fanfare. And he then, without the fanfare, immediately hired him again as director of the New York office of the SCLC, as confirmed by the Richmond News-Leader of September 27, 1963.
        In 1963 a Black man from Monroe, North Carolina named Robert Williams made a trip to Peking, China. Exactly 20 days before King’s 1964 march on Washington, Williams successfully urged Mao Tse-Tung to speak out on behalf of King’s movement. Mr. Williams was also around this time maintaining his primary residence in Cuba, from which he made regular broadcasts to the southern United States, three times a week, from high-power AM transmitters in Havana under the title “Radio Free Dixie.” In these broadcasts, he urged violent attacks by Blacks against White Americans.
        During this period, Williams wrote a book entitled Negroes With Guns. The writer of the foreword for this book? None other than “Martin Luther King, Jr.” It is also interesting to note that the editors and publishers of this book were to a man all supporters of the infamous Fair Play for Cuba Committee.
        According to King’s biographer and sympathizer David J. Garrow, “King privately described himself as a Marxist.” In his 1981 book, The FBI and Martin Luther King, Jr., Garrow quotes King as saying in SCLC staff meetings, “…we have moved into a new era, which must be an era of revolution…. The whole structure of American life must be changed…. We are engaged in the class struggle.”
        Jewish Communist Stanley Levison can best be described as King’s behind-the-scenes “handler.” Levison, who had for years been in charge of the secret funnelling of Soviet funds to the Communist Party, USA, was King’s mentor and was actually the brains behind many of King’s more successful ploys. It was Levison who edited King’s book, Stride Toward Freedom. It was Levison who arranged for a publisher. Levison even prepared King’s income tax returns! It was Levison who really controlled the fund-raising and agitation activities of the SCLC. Levison wrote many of King’s speeches. King described Levison as one of his “closest friends.”

        FBI: King Bought Sex With SCLC Money
        The Federal Bureau of Investigation had for many years been aware of Stanley Levison’s Communist activities. It was Levison’s close association with King that brought about the initial FBI interest in King.
        Lest you be tempted to believe the controlled media’s lie about “racists” in the FBI being out to “get” King, you should be aware that the man most responsible for the FBI’s probe of King was Assistant Director William C. Sullivan. Sullivan describes himself as a liberal, and says that initially “I was one hundred per cent. for King…because I saw him as an effective and badly needed leader for the Black people in their desire for civil rights.” The probe of King not only confirmed their suspicions about King’s Communist beliefs and associations, but it also revealed King to be a despicable hypocrite, an immoral degenerate, and a worthless charlatan.
        According to Assistant Director Sullivan, who had direct access to the surveillance files on King which are denied the American people, King had embezzled or misapplied substantial amounts of money contributed to the “civil rights” movement. King used SCLC funds to pay for liquor, and numerous prostitutes both Black and White, who were brought to his hotel rooms, often two at a time, for drunken sex parties which sometimes lasted for several days. These types of activities were the norm for King’s speaking and organizing tours.
        In fact, an outfit called the “National Civil Rights Museum” in Memphis, Tennessee, which is putting on display the two bedrooms from the Lorraine Motel where King stayed the night before he was shot, has declined to depict in any way the occupants of those rooms. That—according to exhibit designer Gerard Eisterhold—would be “close to blasphemy.” The reason? “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” spent his last night on Earth having sexual intercourse with two women at the motel and physically beating and abusing a third.
        Sullivan also stated that King had alienated the affections of numerous married women. According to Sullivan, who in 30 years with the Bureau had seen everything there was to be seen of the seamy side of life, King was one of only seven people he had ever encountered who was such a total degenerate.
        Noting the violence that almost invariably attended King’s supposedly “non-violent” marches, Sullivan’s probe revealed a very different King from the carefully crafted public image. King welcomed members of many different Black groups as members of his SCLC, many of them advocates and practitioners of violence. King’s only admonition on the subject was that they should embrace “tactical nonviolence.”
        Sullivan also relates an incident in which King met in a financial conference with Communist Party representatives, not knowing that one of the participants was an infiltrator actually working for the FBI.
        J. Edgar Hoover personally saw to it that documented information on King’s Communist connections was provided to the President and to Congress. And conclusive information from FBI files was also provided to major newspapers and news wire services. But were the American people informed of King’s real nature? No, for even in the 1960s, the fix was in—the controlled media and the bought politicians were bound and determined to push their racial mixing program on America. King was their man and nothing was going to get in their way. With a few minor exceptions, these facts have been kept from the American people. The pro-King propaganda machine grinds on, and it is even reported that a serious proposal has been made to add some of King’s writings as a new book in the Bible.
        Ladies and gentlemen, the purpose of this radio program is far greater than to prove to you the immorality and subversion of this man called King.
        I want you to start to think for yourselves.
        I want you to consider this: What are the forces and motivation behind the controlled media’s active promotion of King?
        What does it tell you about our politicians when you see them, almost without exception, falling all over themselves to honor King as a national hero?
        What does it tell you about our society when any public criticism of this moral leper and Communist functionary is considered grounds for dismissal?
        What does it tell you about the controlled media when you see how they have successfully suppressed the truth and held out a picture of King that can only be described as a colossal lie?
        You need to think, my fellow Americans. You desperately need to wake up.

        I beg to differ with your opinion. I am in the minority where I work as a white man in the housekeeping dept. of a hospital. There are two whites, a bunch of spanish, and a whole hell of a lot of lazy ass black, jamaican, carribbean people. When you use the phrase “Buy American”, what you are really saying is “buy from American Corporations, even though their products are more expensive and/or poorer quality.” Does that sound good to you? Do you think you are doing your fellow Americans any favors if you follow that principle? The only people who really benefit are the corporate owners who are laughing all the way to the bank.

      Take cars for example. The “Buy American” crowd only wants you to buy something made by the Big Three. But if you look at the massive tangle of the ownership of car companies, it is a joke. GM teams up with Toyota. Ford owns several “European” car companies. For a while the Germans owned Chrysler. All the “American” car companies have manufacturing plants all over the world, including Canada and Mexico. Many “Foreign” companies have plants here in the USA. Almost all of these companies are corporations with ownership spread out all over the world. Parts are made everywhere and shipped everywhere. Who can tell which cars are “American” or “Foreign”?

      You want me to buy your product? Make high quality at a competitive price.

      About the only exception I have to this rule is where other countries play games with market access and tariffs. I like free trade, and I think that for any country that tries to tilt the playing field, we should tilt it right back at them.

      Open your eyes people. Think for yourself. Question everything…question me!

        You are exactly right Robert Wayne. I have a friend who retired from the Tulsa fire Dept. who told me that they were doing emergency training to prepare for MLK’s visit to Tulsa. He didn’t make the visit because the leaders of the black community asked him not to. They didn’t want the riots, looting, and all the trouble that MLK stirred up. I grew up in Alabama and remember MLK’s “peaceful” riots.           The main reason is that there are no intercity buses made in America anymore.

          GM sold their bus business years ago, and the company that bought them, MCI, is now out of business. Ford and Mack haven’t made buses in over fifty years. Flexible went out of business in the late 1970s. Flyer is a Canadian company owned by Bombardier, but they specialize in transit-type buses (i.e., those used by city trasit lines, such as the MTA in New York.)

          For intercity-type buses, Prevost (pronounced PRE-vo,) the Canadian bus manufacturer, is as close as we’re going to come. There are several European makers, including Renault, Van Hool, MAN, DAF, Neoplan and Mercedes-Benz. The Japanese buses are not well-suited to American roads due to their size and driving characteristics, and as a result, are not sold here.

      I think it’s a very sad commentary on what we’ve become. This country used to be able to supply whatever it wanted- because we had the talent, the skills and the desire to do the job.

      We’ve become also-rans, I’m sorry to say. We can still do all these things, but Washington’s drive- from both sides of the aisle, I might add, to create a permanent underclass and discourage people from their dreams by continually selling them out- either to big business or big social welfare, will end up ruining this country.

      I would like to know whose idea it was to job this out to the Chinese- the people who are the poster children for intolerance and bigotry. It’s somewhat ironic.

      I don’t have a problem with the Chinese granite- they have a lot of it, and it’s good material. Sculptors from around the world use it because it’s a good product. But I would like to think that ONE American sculptor would have wanted to do this; did whoever commissioned this statue even ask?

      Other thoughts:

      1. Aesthetically, this is one of most hideous sculptures I’ve ever seen.
      2. FOUR acres? Give me a break; that’s excessive to an extreme.
      3. It’s not a flattering likeness of Dr. King at all.
      4. Dr. King’s vision was wonderful. I set aside all politics and theology in that statement; calling for us to act as a unified country was well past due and not doing so caused us far too many problems. Calling for all of mankind to be brothers is something in agreement with all major religions and most of the secular philosophies. With that much agreement, how can you call it wrong?

      Discrimination never should have been allowed to have as big a place in this country as it did; everyone should’ve had the opportunity from day one for happiness and success. Had we adapted that tact from the start instead of giving into the south and their continued demand for slavery, we probably wouldn’t even be having this conversation now.

      What has failed miserably was the implementation of his dream- forced equality, gross expansion of welfare catering mostly to minorities, and a grotesque distortion of his character from detractors on the left (who morphed his ideas into violence and more hatred,) and the right (see some of the remarks here, and are almost so far to the right, that they blur lines with the left.)

      In short, we have another nice idea horribly executed by government bungling.

    The very idea that it was not designed and carved by an American is outrageous. It it utterly illegimate. I have nothing against the Chinese artist. That sculptor is not the issue. The issue is this man fought peacefully for the civil rights of American blacks. You’d expect he’d be afforded an American sculptor. Don’t tell me there are no brilliant black Artists here in the US. It almost looks sinister and Mao-like in a way. I just don’t get it at all especially since it is sitting in Washington, DC. I celebrate all artists from all over the world but there is such a thing as sensitivity and appropriateness. Who commissioned this, who paid for it and who can we write to make our views heard? This was a gross mistake in judgement.

As far as the statue of MLK, that to is sad, with all the talent we have in America, whoever made this decision, he/she is the unthoughtful individual. I am sure that, for most of the African Americans it doesn’t make a difference where it was made, but for all other americans, I am sure it bothered them. Now, Martin Luther King in my opinion was a great man, with just as many faults as I and everybody else has in this world, and for what he did in such a peaceful manner, deservesto be mermorialized by this Statue, but to have it done in China, well That was wrong in my opinion, I’m sure that does not mean a thing to African Americans.

    I saw King close up in Marquette Park in Chicago in the 60′s.He was scared to death.On the news that night he made the remark “This is worse than Selma Alabama”. Bet his ass it was. The next 5 marches they put on were led by Jesse Jackson,and he was scared as hell too.I went face to face with the Rev. and asked him why he was coming to my neighborhood and causing a commotion. His answer was “We are here to see that we have the right to live anywhere we wish. Would you like to join us in our march for freedom?” I told him he was F’n nuts and when he hits Archer and Kostner there are about 10,000 pissed off white people there to kick his black ass. He just walked away. They never made Archer Avenue, too many white folk there. These people have done more to ruin any kind of relations than anyone on earth.     Personally I don’t like the depiction of Dr. King. The stance makes him look like a communist dictator. He was a strong man that cared deeply for others but he was never violent, nor authoritarian. He used the words of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence to point out injustices. Yes, he was black and black’s rallied behind him for good reason, but many others of diverse race did too because it was the right thing to do. Violence only came from the suppressors. They carried the guns, they killed, they beat, they jailed those that only asked to be treated fairly.
    I believe Dr. King would be sad that his country could not choose from among it’s citizens to select a sculptor.
    We are giving away the pride that we have in our own country and people. It is a sad time.

    I was discharged from the Air Force in March 1965. I drove from New Orleans to Florida. Every ten miles I saw a billboard with a photograph of Martin Luther King in a Communist Training School. Needless to say, I was surprised that the USA would actually commerorate a holiday for a Communist. I guess it’s fitting that his staue would be commissioned in Communist China. Why are his records sealed? If there;s nothing to hide, let’s open up the records. There are enough honorable upstanding black persons in this great country. You don’t have to invent heroes, what’s wrong with the honorable black men that have been real American heroes? I guess time dulls memories and the historians have re-written the facts.     The bottom line is that MLK was preaching peace in a time of turmoil in race relations. Few were doing that, so they proclaimed him a hero. They had no real heros, and were looking for one to represent them in their quest for whatever it was they were trying to suck out of America for perceived sins of the fathers…ie…slavery. He is still, till this day, one of a very few that can be considered civilized enough to be given credibility for the statements he had made. He was just a bit more domesticated than the masses, although he did have his faults as most of us do. What may go under the radar in his adulation by many is the fact that his speeches likely have prevented mass destruction of the urban areas of America by the Blacks, and I give him credit for that. We could use another MLK at this time in our history since it appears we re getting ready to experience more carnage from them with the flash mobs coming into vogue, and in that sense he could be considered a hero of sorts to even Whites who view him as nothing more than another womanizing Black.

    I’m confused, I thought that the day that MLK marched, anyone that was to march with him, had to sign a contract stating that they will remain peaceful, and not react in violence to anyone that was out to provoke them. Wasn’t MLK’s legacy was to march for equality for all people, not just blacks, but for all races, and that everyone was given equal justice under the law, along with equal opportunity in the job market. Wasn’t this his dream. When I attened the restoring honor ralley, we were asked to sign the same contract that Dr. King used on http://www.glenbeck.com. I also got to listen to MLK’s niece speak at that ralley, and she talked of her Uncles vision, of seeing all racists, joined together, all thriving in a world, where all was treated equally.     I thought I was the last one left who knew that MLK was a Red and not the “reverend” hero everyone purports him to be. I have a picture of MLK in a confab with many high ranking Reds in the 50′s. He is sitting in the front row. An honest journalist could do a little research and uncover some shocking details about this radical. His followers did some atrocious things during his marches such as peeing in the sugar bowls in Alabama restaurants. No one mentions these things. Just for the record, I believe there are a lot of heroic black Americans. Herman Cain, Deroy Murdock, Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Condoleeza Rice to name a few. As for MLK, as far as I am concerned, his statue would be a better fit in Cuba, Peking, or Hanoi. I couldn’t care less where it was made. Incidentally, the same goes for Cesar Chavez but to a lesser extent.

    Ok, to get this straight: we allow a statue of REVEREND MLK to be erected in the mall, on taxpayer money, and built in China while the mayor of New York attempts to ban religious ceremonies from ground zero, which was privately held property. If a statue was to be placed in the mall, it should have been a Frederick Douglas monument.

    The govt, taking an active role in quotas in employment and college, are racist by definition. Every job application asks whether you are black, hispanic, or white. This definitely needs to change, it’s clearly favoring one race over another.

    The thing that nobody is picking up on is the fact that outsourcing is wildly stimulating the economies of third world nations–there is only so much oil in the world–why would any sane person want India and China competing with us for a very limited resource. Were we to (somewhat gradually) end outsourcing our 10% unemployed would have jobs, be paying taxes, and we would not be in a recession. As it is the upper 1% control 40% of our nation’s wealth–and looking at the economy, it is reasonable to say they are doing a lousy job of it. They want for nothing–they don’t “spend” their money–they “invest”–and with outsourcing, that means the money goes out of our economy–never to return–it’s killing us. The rise of the MBA culture since the middle of the 1900′s is the foulest, most destructive thing that has happened to America–worshiping the bottom line has led to the near destruction of our nation. It doesn’t matter if those idiots drive the cost of production to zero if nobody in America has money to buy this “cheap” stuff. MLK’s misbegotten statue stands as a prime example of our government’s total disconnect with America–it regards the citizens (taxes) as a crop to be harvested–we have got to take our country back.

    With the country in dire straits as it is, we spend, and I say we because every taxpayer knows that it is our money that was used, 120 million on a memorial for this guy. What I don’t get is if a memorial was so important, then why doesn’t the family put up the dough? I haven’t mentioned the fact that we had it made in China. Why not just have all our unemployed people move there so they can find work? Remember when you vote next year what this and past administrations have done to our economy and our country. Any incumbants that are looking for employment, give them the boot or all you will get is more of the same. We need a balanced budget and they keep spending money on things that do the American people no monitary well being. More poor leadership and lack of fiscal responsibility.     I don’t believe MLK was deserving of a monument on the National Mall, let alone the 4 acres to put it on. It should have been built in MLK’s home state with donated funds. Moot point. With 10 million Americans jobless, this was not the time to spend all that money in China. Another moot point. The monument should have been designed and produced by an American artist, which probably would have been cheaper. Yet another moot point. But think about it… maybe we’re preparing for the day China takes over the country as collection on our debt. There’s one monument that won’t have to be Asianized.

    Notice the eyes are DEFINITELY narrower, the forehead is broader and squarer, the upper lip is larger, the coat is classic Stalin/Moa military uniform.

    Communist cubist art always has the men standing tall in uniforms that “blouse out’ at the bottom with large pocket flap. Dr. King didn’t wear this kind of suit. BUT all of Moa’s statues and Stalin’s statues look exactly like this with the military style coats and stern look. THIS artist did the Moa statue in China, it is the artists preferred style. In the original photo, Dr Kings eyes look up in deep thought but in the statue they look menacingly down and to the side.

    This statue not only doesn’t look like Dr.King but doesn’t capture who he was. This is a statue of a communist dictator not a humble composed man who practiced Civil Disobedience. It teaches NOTHING.
