Romney is What’s Wrong with the Republican Party

Print Friendly

Floyd and Mary Beth Brown

Reading Al Gore’s comments on Mitt Romney we were reminded of all of the reason’s we don’t trust the man: “Good for Mitt Romney though we’ve long passed the point where weak lip-service is enough on the Climate Crisis…While other Republicans are running from the truth, he is sticking to his guns in the face of the anti-science wing of the Republican Party.”

The so-called science of global warming is more media hype and Wall Street attempts to profit on trading carbon credits than it is real science. The scientific community is split on the topic with some climatologist predicting a new mini ice age. Mitt Romney’s gullibility on this issue helps us understand why he has been so wrong on most of the vital issue of the last decade.

Romney is often trumpeted by his supporters as having business experience and they love to site this record of taking Massachusetts from a three billion dollar deficit to a one billion dollar surplus. But the cost of his balanced budgets was tough on business. Peter Nicholas, founder of Boston Scientific Corporation, stated it this way: “tax rates on many corporations almost doubled because of legislation supported by Romney… Romney’s tax policies were not helpful for many small businesses…when Romney took many IRS subchapter S businesses in Massachusetts and almost doubled their tax rates; it was an important disincentive to investment, growth and job creation.”

The Cato Institute reports as Governor, Romney “proposed $140 million in business tax hikes through the closing of ‘loopholes’ in the tax code.” This led to Joseph Crosby of the Council on State Taxation to say, “Romney went further than any other governor in trying to wring money out of corporations.”

Romney raised taxes on business by a total of $309 million. He increased taxes on business property. He then tried to raise taxes on hotels, but was stopped by the Democrat legislature. Romney at the time joined a coalition lobbying congress to tax internet activity, and he even supported a tax on out of state commuters.

Romney refused to support the Bush tax cuts while governor, and when campaigning for Governor, refused to sign the “no new taxes” pledge, calling it “government by gimmickry.”

Now he wants us to believe he is a born again tax fighter.

But it is on the social issues that we get real heart burn. As star conservative researcher Steve Baldwin has pointed out: “Romney changed his position on over thirty key issues as he prepared to run for President four years ago.” Many of his conversion experiences are on issues we believe to be vital to the wellbeing of America’s families.

As Governor Romney did great damage by unilaterally ordering homosexual marriage be instituted in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Constitution clearly prohibits the judicial branch from specifically changing marriage statutes so when the court issued the Goodridge opinion favoring homosexual marriage, all Romney had to do was to declare the court had no jurisdiction and ignore it. Instead Romney asserted the opinion was now the law and ordered town clerks and Justices of the Peace to marry homosexuals, even though the legislature never acted to codify the ruling.

But the reason we will never support him for President is an action he took in 2005. Governor Romney personally issued special Governor’s one-day marriage licenses to 189 same-sex couples, including to a homosexual activist state senator and others of his personal friends in the homosexual community.

We believe he can call a homosexual union whatever he wants, but it will never be a marriage. Marriage is the union of one man with one woman ordained by God for the purpose of creating a family. Even a President Romney can’t trump God and God’s nature. Let’s hope Republican primary voters are smart enough to never let it come to that possibility.

Romney is not only a RINO, but a chameleon and he will bend to pressure, change color and tunes. While he may not be our ideal he will be a far better President than an Obama II. So, let us not despair if Mr. Romney gets the nomination, but we will all have to write letters to the White House to keep him on course.

For political analysis, physical science and humor see The Two Minute Conservative at: http://adrianvance.blogspot.com Now on Kindle.

    • Pathfinder

You are free to waste your vote on a RINO if you wish. But as for me, IF the republican party nominates any RINO they will lose my vote. GOT IT !

      • TrueAmerican

Being a true Republican means that you stand behind your party and you trust their judgement. You are what’s wrong with this country. You are the worst kind of American. You either get your way or no way. In the end allowing the left to win is well a disgrace! That is what happened last time. You left your cojones at the door and you my friend allowed Obama to win! Now grow a pair and vote because this is bigger than you!
Otherwise, you are just a waste of space and deserve what ever comes your way hellish or otherwise.

  • http://www.LuciDMari.com Luci D’Mari

Romney is no good for America. We didn’t want him in 2008 and we don’t want him in 2012.
The Rinos better wise up. The days of their crony “seniority” are GONE!
WE, THE POELE, now want a Constitutionalist in the White House. NOT ONE WHO STUDIED IT but ONE WHO UNDERSTANDS IT, LOVES IT AND WILL ENFORCE IT – against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic.

    • iwatchtnetworknewsprograms

luci, you got that right !

    • John Detwiler

Like the article says, Romney is what is wrong with the Republican party. He is a RINO and follows Obama agenda of anti business and higher taxes on business and the affluent. Take care people we are fighting for our very existance. STAY AWAY FROM ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT. Michael Bachman is a far better choice, and she is for busuness and jobs.

    • Pathfinder

Luci D’Mari : I agree. I too want someone who will take the oath of office seriously and uphold the constitution.

  • Joseph C Moore, USN Ret

Forgive my pedantry but the third paragraph, first sentence should read : “…..and they love to CITE this record….”. That is cite as in citation, not site as in place or area.

    • Pathfinder

Thank you, Joseph C Moore, it is good to see that some among us still value correct grammer. It seems that the tax fundede miseducation system is accomplishing its mission; namely, turning Americans into a collection of illiterates.

      • Pathfinder

OOPS ! I ment to type “funded” not “fundede”.

        • Joyce Fountaine

          grammAr

  • Joseph C Moore, USN Ret

My comment about the grammatical error of “site” instead of “cite” in the Floyd and Marybeth Brown post is not shown.

    • Pathfinder

You will be pleased to know that your post is visible; at least to me.

  • Carol

Gads! Don’t tell me the republican party is really going for Romney, especially after the Gore endorsement. How stupid can they really be?

    • AZ Don

No they do not think you are stupid they think you are smart enough to think exactly what you are thinking support form Gore is enough to kill support for Romney. Right now he is the one they are most concerned about running against Obama. Furthermore, if you remember what the New York Times did to get McCain the republican nomination and we, conservatives fell for that completely. This time they know we will be on the look out for tricks like that so they have advanced their thinking a level. If we are not to fall into their trap the second time we better wise up and figure them out.

Ask yourself this, does anyone think someone who was a VP under Clinton and a hard line liberal progressive almost as bad as Obama ever support someone running under a conservative title. That is very doubtful! However, it is early yet and there is a long way to go to November 2012. Many things will happen and without a doubt many strange things will, I’m sure we ain’t seen nothing yet.

Stay cool, don’t panic and above all don’t make up your mind about who you will support yet until you see the whole field. Could be some surprises to come, the most important thing is to see to it Obama in not reelected!!

I personally do not support Romney at this point ( I support no one at this point, I’ll wait and see how things play out) but if it came down to him or Obama, it will be Romney for sure. This lunatic we currently have in the office of president intends to destroy our nation. I see no one on the list of potential conservative candidates currently that want to do anything except save this great nation. Don’t we all agree that is what we need?

    • Steve Bouton

You bet they are that stupid! Can you say ‘Dole’? Or how ’bout ‘McCain’? I have been banging my head against the wall for years over GOP stupidity.

      • Pathfinder

Steve Bouton : Rather than bang my head against a wall; I have been voteing Libertarian in the last several elections. I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR ANY RINO. IF the republican party nominates a true conservative, who will keep their oath of office and uphold the constitution; then I will vote republican for the first time in over 20 years. On the other hand, IF they continue to nominate RINOs; then I contribute my money to and cast my vote for the Libertarian party.

    • DBak61

The Gore endorsement is probably THE best reason to say NO to Romney. I hope it proves to be the poison pill of his nomination aspirations. As conservatives we have to stop allowing the enemy, libtards, to choose our nominees. It’s not like any of them would vote for him. Did they voe for McLame? I don’t think so…(Personally I voted for Sara).

    • Novel

He is a liberal and a Democrat

    • Pathfinder

Considering that they nominated Bob Dole, when they could have defeated Bill Clinton by nominating Alan Keyes, and that they offered McCain thus throwing the election to BHO; would it really surprise you if the republican party proved, once again, to be a herd of RINOs ?

  • http://stanleymuzyk@gmail.com Super Nutmegger

Floyd and Mary Beth Floyd are hate merchants –and their views should be judged as such.
    They couldn’t shine Romney’s shoes!

    • Huapakechi

      Is anything they recounted untrue?

This former governor of Massachusetts is readily identifiable by the huge horn on his nose, and his belief in the anthropogenic global warming scam.

    • Stephen

Pointing out the facts is not hate. What is it with you people who try to label anything and everything as hate? I would never trust Romney in the White House. It doesn’t take a Nobel winner to understand that he would not be good for this nation.

      • Aristophanes

stephen – “It doesn’t take a Nobel winner” is kind of weird. obummer is a faux Nobel winner. I really do not take being a Nobel winner as a sign of intelligence!!!

    • Stephen

Since when is pointing out the facts being hateful? What is it with you people who brand anything and everything as hate? I wouldn’t trust Romney in the White House. It doesn’t take a Nobel winner to see that he is bad for this nation.

  • k9vonengel

The article is right on the button. If they nominate Romney for President, then they can forget my vote. I never trusted him and still don’t

  • A.B.

This whole thing sounds like smoke screen from Romney. I am unsure of his intentions if and when he is the nominee. However, both Reagan and Bush the father changed their minds on abortion before they won their respective primaries. He is not first place with me, and with the endorsement by Gore, and perhaps other more liberals, this tells me he is not our man.

  • Eliza

Romney is not my choice and hasn’t been my choice – now that I’ve learned he believes in Global Warming/Climate change and endorsed by Al Gore – absolutely NOT my choice. I’m not sure how his health care compares with Obamacare – but since there is a parallel there, that just seals my thoughts that he is not the best candidate ! We have better conservative, small government, low taxes, fiscally responsible individuals who care about “we the people” !!!

  • Frank Bates

Mitt Romney is not my choice as President, but Sarah Palin/Michelle Bochman are winners and if elected Pres and VP am sure they have the heart to turn this country back to where it was until Obama and the Demos got into the game, and we need to turn the USA into a better place for everyone. Did not vote for him and when he runs again, he will be without my vote, and let us all put our votes in 2012. Frank

  • Cynthia

With Al Gore endorsing him, Romney’s poll numbers should plummet down the toilet.
Where they should have been all along. He is an embarassment to anyone loyal to the Constitution. God forbid him to win.

  • Jacksonian Libertarian

The TEA Parties are not going to support anyone without Fiscal Conservative Street Cred.
Romney is not electable, if the Republican party nominates him, it will split the party as the TEA Parties find a Real small government, fiscal conservative to vote for. Look at the recent NY26 election, the FAKE TEA Party candidate took 9% of the vote from the Republican, Perot got Clinton elected TWICE. If the Republican Party nominates anyone that lacks TEA Party support, they will guarantee Obama another 4 years. I certainly am not going to waste my vote on a Flip Flopping Rino.

  • ROY

Romney reminds me of Elmer Gantry. A slick opportunist and a con artist. I wouldn’t give him my vote if he were running for dog catcher.

    • Joyce Fountaine

That is a perfect comparison. I was a young child when I saw that movie and I have often seen Gantry in politicians and preachers. It fits Romney very well! His record speaks loudly!

  • Eric Miklas

The Media is touting Romney as the “Front Runner”, meaning he is the one THEY want, of the Republicans that are running. They’ll produce polls to back up this spin too! In reality and certainly from a Conservative point of view, Romney is not the weakest candidate but nonetheless a “weak” candidate. Largely because he’s really not all that Conservative (he’s like McCain, Collins, Snowe and a few others on the Right). The Republican Candidates that would serve the country best and are probably the true “Front Runners” from the Conservative & Tea Party standpoint are: Bachmann, Santorum, Cain and Palin (if she runs). Neither the Media, the Left or the Moderate Republicans want any of these four running because they know they will have a LOT of support from MAIN STREAM AMERICA, which would include a LOT of Republicans, the majority of Independents and quite a few Conservative / Moderate Democrats!

    • Steve Bouton

Gee, didn’t the media trumpet McCain in the primaries? I won’t let the Lamestream Media decide my vote.

      • Pathfinder

Steve Bouton : Exactlty !! Let us not allow the Lamestream media to pick the candidate for us. It is time to choose a real constitutionalist.

  • David

Dr. Michael Savage says the cabal behind the scenes has scheduled eight years of Republicans followed by eight years of Democrats. Obama has four years to go…You may have noticed that McCain didn’t make much of an effort to win last time (he could have exposed Obama). Now it’s Romney’s turn to be the fall guy…There is only one way the people can win and upset this conspiracy and that is to unite behind one of the candidates in the Tea Party. ..The prophecy is that our last president before nuclear destruction will be a beautiful woman.

  • http://jerkoffcomment don

i dislike romney and will not vote for him. if gore thinks he great ,that is a turn off for me

  • http://conservativebyte tina

Romney is a RINO of the worst kind. This latest endorsement by Al “Blowhard” Gore is the least of your worries,Romney and Gingrich are taking you straight to the New World Order, they are on the “R’ side also both side are infiltrated. Work these guys over with a fine tooth comb.

  • Brian

Most of this article is false, and the rest is just misleading. But rather than arguing every point, I will only take the time to say this: Mitt Romney is a conservative, and there is absolutely no issue about which he differs from core conservative principles. If you have issues with the way in which he may have had to compromise on a few issues in liberal Massachusetts, or if you deny a man’s ability to grow more conservative on a couple of issues when faced with those issues for the first time as a leader (just like Reagan did), then you are not being fair. But there is no mistaking his positions as our most promising candidate, and they are ideal! I am voting for Mitt Romney, and he will be an excellent president.

    • Bob

Here come the Rino’s the 5th column in our nation, the people who cheated in school and lied to the electorate in every campaign and then voted against their constituents. Is there no integrity left among the Republican leaders and voters who solicit office and then just milk the system for themselves and their buddies. Our founding fathers placed their lives on the front lines to get this Constituion right. Once we get the right R leaders in office in control we can plug those loopholes Obama, the Democrates and the Republican Rinos use to feather their nests and destroy the nation that many world leaders tried to emulate for their own country as their dictators were hung out to dry. g

    • Pathfinder

Brian : It is your comment rather than the article which is false. I cite for you a major piece of evidence to show that Mitt is not IT. ROMNEYCARE !!! Here you have socialized medicine at the state level. I do not want some republican RINO to give me a republican version of socialized medicine after repealing obamacare. I want NO socialized medicine at all. Is that plain and clear enough for you ???

  • Brian

And one more thing… Wake up! We have seen this before, and only a fool will fail to see that Al Gore does NOT support Romney, nor does he want him to be president. Duh! He “endorsed” him as a ploy to damage Romney’s campaign! All of you who wrote idiotic comments like, “if Gore endorsed Romney, then Romney is not our man” are precisely the sort of dense fools Gore is trying to sway. So obvious!

    • Pathfinder

Brian : I would not vote for Romney, even if Gore did NOT endorse him. Romney HAS “brought into” the hoax of anthropogenic global warming (AGW). Thus he will support draconian measures that are destructive to our economy. Romney’s support of the AGW alarmists is reason enough (even absent any support from Al Gore) to oppose him.

  • Gambler#7

The elite GOP are grasping at straws. Maybe they’re starting to grasp the idea that informed voters can’t be fooled, but then again maybe not. After the Mc Cain blunder, you might think they’ve learned something. That doesn’t seem to be the case. Might as well write in Boehner for pres. Obarry should be disqualified but the cowards in DC don’t have the spine….

  • wart hog

I am not crazy about Romney either. However if the Republicans shoot themselves in the foot and pull another John McCain out of the hat meaning Mitt Romney then we will have to vote for the man. Mitt Romney would be 100% better than that jackass in the White House now. No matter what we have to vote against Obama!

    • Pathfinder

wart hor : WRONG ! WRONG !! WRONG !!! We do NOT have to vote for whatever a$$hole the republicans give us. If you try to get rid of a socialist with a “D” behind his name by voteing for some other socialist with an “R” behind his name; you get nowhere. In fact, even if you “win” (get your guy into office); you still LOSE because you are still stuck with a socialist picking your pocket and re-distributing the wealth. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !! NO MORE RINOS !!!

  • LoneStar

Forget Romney [Rick Perry + Sarah Palin in 2012 a win win combo]

    • Pathfinder

Lonestar : Whether Perry / Palin or Palin / Perry, IF the republican party offers such a ticket; I would vote republican for the first time in over 20 years. On the other hand, IF I am again offered a RINO; I will continue to support the Libertarian party. In 2008, I cast my ballot for Bob Barr. So, don’t blame me for BHO, I voted Libertarian. I strongly urge all constitutionalists, IF the republicans offer another RINO; do not stay home!! Find a real constitutionalist candidate, and both campaign against the democrats AND the republicans, AND vote for a true friend of the constitution.

  • wart hog

I like Michelle Bachman and she may be the next GOP nominee. She is avery smart prosecuting tax attorney with experience. She is up on what is going on in Washington D.C. She wants to turn our country around and get rid of the socialists/marxists. She also knows the economy has to be the first place to start and she said she would repeal Obamacare. We all will suffer under Obama’s healthcare program. I hope people don’t get disgruntled and refuse to vote because they did not get the candidate they wanted. We have to pull together and get rid of Obama to save our way of life. I don’t want to live like the Europeans! They don’t have the American dream and that is why Europe is jealous of us. They always have been. Do you want to live like the Venzuleans with rolling brown outs? No water, no transportation etc., Wake up people. I would vote for Mickey Mouse if that is who the nominee is. Also don’t split the vote, that is a sure fire way of putting Obama back in for 4 more years.

  • wart hog

I am with you Eric. Your are right on about the media touting Romney with the fake polls. Push for the Tea Party person. I think we can upset the GOP cart.

  • Wayne Bauer

Romney is bad for country, but don’t let him make bad impression of Republican party. He’s not Republican in thought, or deeds only words when running. No we don’t trust politicians and know they can do nothing but lie. But we have to decide lies are gray or they are black and white. Find an honest candidate, quit following media and party elites you your common sense

  • Bob

The economic crash that is scheduled just a mere three months before the election signals that an Obama attempt to legislate by fiat, an economic disaster politically, or a natural disaster among the political potentates of America will occur and turn the entire election upside down. It is the end of times, but not the end of time. It is only a heavenly event that changes our way of living and begins the new culture of our world. Hang in there and hold to your beliefs that the evil ones get the pleasure of being liquidated and the culture begins to grow again. g

  • Patricia mcGehee

The Establishment will not be electing the candidate this time around. We, the people will, and it will not be Romney. I’m sure he’s a good man, but he’s not the choice of the people for a lot of various reasons.

  • Charles Brandon

I’ll NEVER VOTE for Romney. SO he can stuff it up his A**.

  • bobcat

no Romney, no Gingrich, no Cain, no Pawlenty, no Huntsman. a maybe for West, Perry, but a big YES for Bachmann, Palin.

  • DE Navarro

Let’s quit mincing words. Romney is a Republican Socialist. If we want socialism to continue in this country, we can choose the liberal democratic brand or the state corporatist republican brand.

Or we could do something really different and reject socialism all together and vote in a statesman or stateswoman and constitutionalist — which, right now, outside of Bachmann, Palin, DeMint, and Cain, I’m not too sure anyone fits the bill. Please enlighten me if you know of anyone else worthy of being considered a true American patriot and stateswoman or statesman.

  • Atheist Jayson

It’s really quite disturbing how some people will vehemently attempt to discredit and dismiss the validity of Global Warming. It’s a reality. Al Gore spent years studying climatology in college. I consider Mr. Gore a leading expert on environmental issues. The individuals discounting climate change are most ignorant; most never even went to college and they’re spouting off that, “they know it all.” This is not child’s play folks, it’s serious business. Ocean temperatures are rising, sea life is being decimated, polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate, record heat waves in the mid-west and east, tsunamis, earthquakes, and you say global warming is a farce? Science explains ALL, and dismissing scientific facts is the villain that corrupts and limits the minds of poorly educated common folks.
